Race Review: Autumn Leaves 5 Miler
November 1, 2015 Leave a comment
This is my first cross country race in who knows how long [middle school maybe?]. Who can say no to a race that’s 15 minutes away and a 5 miler, when it’s still decently nice in Cleveland. Weather today was better than yesterday- sunny, mid 50s and not as chilly. I signed up when I was on call Monday night and paid $30….if I were smarter, I would have signed up Sunday before the race fee went up $5!
Packet pick up was at Second Sole in Mentor yesterday. I should have gone then, but was sick of driving all over the place. They did have race day packet pick up, which I opted for. Long sleeved shirt that wasn’t a mesh tech shirt
Location: Lake Metroparks Farmpark
Parking: paved lot that was free. yay!
The Course: it’s a combination of pavement, gravel, grass and corn maze. Yes, corn maze. There were some hills to this course. It was made more difficult in that it rained last night, so the grass was wet and the corn maze portion was so muddy, I had to walk through it because I kept slipping, Kind of hard to run when you have no traction with your shoes! You go through the Equine Center, barns, around grass fields and have to watch for nooks and crannies on the gravel and grass. Mile markers every 1 mile with someone calling out times. 2 water stops on course. You finish close to where you start and have some post race food and water.
Time: 59:33. I blame the corn maze and the slipperiness of the grass
A decent race. Wish it wouldn’t have rained overnight because it affected the course. I was just glad it wasn’t raining and that it was at least warmer today than yesterday. Now the question is more XC races in the future or not.
